The main risks are impact to the slender shaft and compression of the tip. Break the cue down, protect every part and use a carrier with an inspection process.
Packing
Fit a tip cap, wrap the shaft in soft material and place parts in a rigid tube. Fill voids so components cannot move, but do not squeeze the wood.
Documents and insurance
State length, weight and declared value, and photograph the package before sealing. For a valuable cue, insure it and record the serial number on the consignment.
Delivery
Inspect the tube before signing, video the opening and check shaft runout. If damaged, retain all packaging and file the carrier claim immediately.
