A second-hand price only makes sense after checking geometry, the bed and the cost of reinstalling it. Inspect in good light and never rely on one photograph.

Bed and frame

Confirm bed material and number of sections; look for chips and moisture marks at joins. The frame should be crack-free and leg adjusters should turn smoothly. A wooden bed may have permanent distortion from damp storage.

Rails, cloth and pockets

Roll a ball in several directions and compare rail rebound. Check cushions for hardening, cloth for worn tracks and pockets for tears or sagging. Price recovering and cushion replacement before negotiating.

Delivery and records

Request packed-part dimensions, maker markings and installation history. Put the accessory list, carrying method, damage liability and return terms in writing.
