Routine care costs less than premature recovering or rail repair. Split the work into quick after-play actions, a weekly inspection and planned professional service.
After play
Brush chalk dust gently in the nap direction, cover a dry table and return balls to a clean container. Do not use stiff household brushes or place drinks on the rail.
Weekly inspection
Check pocket fasteners, cushion condition, cloth tension and new marks. Clean balls with a product compatible with their material so grime is not transferred back to the cloth.
Geometry check
After moving furniture or a humidity change, roll a test ball in several directions. A repeatable drift calls for a technician, not improvised shims under a leg.
Planned service
Recovering intervals depend on playing load. A qualified technician should assess slate, joins, rails and cloth together and record the findings for the next visit.
