Plan the move before dismantling: slate is heavy and vulnerable to impact, while rails need separate protection. For valuable tables, use an experienced technician or carrier.

Dismantle and label

Photograph the assembled table and number rails, hardware and slate sections. Remove cloth with clean gloves and avoid sharp folds. Put small parts in labelled bags.

Protect components

Wrap each slate section in cushioning and stand it on edge inside a rigid, braced crate. Separate rails with padding; do not press heavy items against pockets or cushions. Stretch film alone can trap moisture and rub a finish.

Loading

Mark top, centre of gravity and fragile faces. Never stack boxes on slate. On arrival, check moisture and damage before complete unpacking, then have a qualified installer reassemble and level the table.
