Shaft stiffness is not a universal quality score. It describes how energy is transferred and how much feedback reaches the player's hand.

Softer and firmer feedback

A more flexible shaft may forgive slight contact errors and make spin feel vivid. A firmer shaft is often chosen for direct feedback and stability on power shots. Tip, taper, weight and delivery matter just as much.

Match the discipline

Pool prioritises cue-ball control, pyramid demands efficient energy transfer to larger balls, and carom rewards precise contact sequences. Cloth and ball sets change the feel, so test in the actual playing environment.

Testing fairly

Compare shafts with the same tip on the same table. Hit stop shots, draw and medium-speed drives, recording dispersion and comfort rather than sound alone.
