Replace a tip when its edge lifts, the surface becomes uneven, cracks appear or it repeatedly mushrooms. Colour alone is not proof of wear.
Inspect
Use bright light and feel the edge gently. An uneven glue line should not be chased with endless sanding.
Decide
For a valuable shaft, use a technician. After fitting, shape the radius and respect the maker’s curing time.
